The Malaysia Showcase Proved To Be A Hit With Exhibitors At The 8th OIC Halal Expo In Istanbul, Turkey

The recently concluded 8th edition of the OIC Halal Expo 2021, which took place from 25-28 November 2021 at the Istanbul Congress Centre in Istanbul, Turkey, was hailed a complete success when the Malaysian Showcase platform successfully promoted over 44 Malaysian halal manufacturers and producers to the OIC countries.

Representing an approach to promote the expansion of Malaysia halal economy to the global markets, the Malaysia Showcase presented 27 physical exhibitors and 17 virtual exhibitors, all from Malaysian local companies to promote and launch their latest halal innovations, renewable energies and sustainable products to the Muslim-majority market.

With the Malaysia Showcase pavilion proving not only the biggest at the OIC Halal Expo with a size of over 214 sq/m, but also the most visited by expo exhibitors and trade visitors, the event was hosted physically for four days, and virtually for the first time, until 15 December 2021.

The overall mission consisted of exhibitions, showcases and business matchings, catering up to 50 exhibitors, 35,000 visitors and delegates from over 20 countries. It was officiated by H.E Sazali Mustafa Kamal, the Malaysia Ambassador in Turkey.

“The halal industry in the state is constantly developing, and more organizations are hopping on board to take advantage of the lucrative halal market. By taking advantage of opportunities and overcoming problems imposed by globalisation, the halal economy can become a significant economic booster for the state,” said H.E Sazali.

Organised by My Events International, the Malaysia Showcase 2021 was supported by the Malaysia Exporters Association (MEXPA), the ASEAN Chamber of Commerce & Industry Malaysia and Aladdin1. The showcase was also in collaboration with MATRADE and SME  Corporation Malaysia, as well as Turkish Airline as Official Airline Partner and Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) as Strategic Partner, while @Halal, HalalFocus and H Media acted as Media Partners.

A new element introduced in this event was the Teh Tarik Session, a relaxing update session focussing on the sustainability of halal ecosystems over freshly-made brewed tea. It certainly achieved its purpose of getting an enlightening roundtable conversation with people from different backgrounds, as well as subject-matter experts. With business matching activities also organised, many entrepreneurs gained numerous new partnerships and potential collaborations during this event.

The last day of the 8th OIC Halal Expo 2021 also witnessed several signings of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) at the Malaysia Showcase Pavilion, including between My Events International & Discover Events, Waham Sdn Bhd and Medicare Global, Asuv Technology and Kreteg, as well as Ezee Food and Deniz Feneri Dernegi of Turkey.

Meanwhile, the virtual showcase platform, which is still ongoing after being extended until 15 December 2021, is made up of three major components, including a virtual exhibition, a business matching session and a Teh Tarik session acting as the knowledge hub.

With the main aim of providing a platform for entrepreneurs and business owners to participate even from other parts of the world, the Malaysia Showcase virtual business matching session also proved to be a hit, when it became the main focus of foreign exhibitors to establish business partnerships and to simply network with the key players within the Malaysian halal industry.
