Inaugural Malaysia Showcase at Halal Expo London Opens Up New Market for Traders in Malaysia and the UK

The Malaysian halal industry made its presence felt at the recent Halal Expo London with the Malaysia Showcase pavilion providing a new market gateway for halal traders from both countries to explore and increase their export potential.
Held from 2-3 December at Excel, London, the inaugural Malaysia Showcase was hosted and organised by My Events International to allow business owners and entrepreneurs to showcase their halal products and services to the UK market.
With some 500 exhibitors present at the expo and over 40,000 visitors and delegates from more than 50 countries attending the conferences and business matching sessions, Malaysia’s participation in the Halal Showcase was to inspire local halal businesses in Malaysia to make the most of the platform available and to inspire Muslim business owners and entrepreneurs worldwide to collaborate, share ideas and communicate with one another in order to grow and strengthen their enterprises throughout the world.
A total of 14 Malaysian halal producers and service providers were showcased at the 100 sq. meters of the Malaysia Showcase pavilion, which was officiated on Friday, 2 December, by H.E Dato’ Zakri Jaafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia in London, accompanied by MATRADE Trade Commissioner of Malaysia in London, Ms. Nurdiana Abdullah.
“United Kingdom (UK) has a big potential for the halal market and has one of the major Muslim populations in Europe. Our top priority is to welcome those potentials back to Malaysia,” said Dato’ Zakri Jaafar, Malaysian High Commissioner in London.
“It is encouraging from a trade perspective that we have a strong exchange, especially from Malaysia to the UK. Our aim is to make London a gateway of the halal industry to the European market,” he added.
“With MATRADE’s goal of promoting Malaysia’s export-ready goods and services, many local businesses were able to forge new paths in the global markets,” said Ms. Nurdiana Abdullah, MATRADE Trade Commissioner of Malaysia in London.
“We are dedicated to establishing the term “Made-In-Malaysia” as a synonym for excellence, dependability and integrity, by showcasing capable Malaysian companies on a global scale today,” she added.
“It is our vision to broaden across several industries to meet the 1.9 billion Muslim consumers around the world’s ethical and religious needs, generating business and investment prospects. By fostering the ideal business settings in the area, the Malaysia Showcase aims to promote “Made in Malaysia” goods and services into the London market,” added Ms. Hema Kandy, the Organising Chairperson.
The event includes the well-known Teh Tarik Session, a leisurely discussion of subjects pertaining to the halal market while sipping freshly-made Teh Tarik (milk tea) which was conducted for educational conversations with experts in the field and people from various backgrounds.
It was anticipated that the entrepreneurs get to network and work together during the event. The Malaysia Showcase anticipated a sizeable contingent of overseas exhibitors to establish business ties with the halal market and halal economy.
